Sorry I just noticed your message !!! Sally has a nose that my vet-also a sheltie owner- says we will watch. Her nose is really dry and flakey and I am constantly putting Surgeons Cream on it. Vet rec. warm compresses daily but I don't always do this. Actually she doesn't have pigment loss. She has white fur around her nose-just checked to make sure !!! Hoping it isn't collie nose that Mikos has. I think it is a pain to treat sometimes. Is he out in the sun a lot ? Praying you get a diagnosis of dry nose...Melinda

Hello.... I did a search for "sunscreen" and came across a post of yours where you mention "collie nose". I also notice that the dog in your profile photo has an odd colouring to his/her nose. Does your sheltie have nasal solar dermatitis? I'm asking because I suspect that Miko (3yr old, sable, male) has this.

I took Miko to the vet and, while he couldn't exactly figure out what it was, he gave us an Rx for antibiotics and an Rx for prednisone. The prednisone has helped with the itching. (he was pawing at his muzzle A LOT, but he's leaving it alone now) However, the crusting skin is getting worse and now you can add hair loss to the list of things going on. (the crusty skin is flaking off and tiny chunks of fur are going with it)

We have another appointment later this week and I plan to mention the possibility of collie nose. If you happen to have a dog with this condition and if what I'm describing sounds like it, could you please let me know.

      Thx
      Andrea & Miko

Husband plays mandolin -preferred but also plays guitar. I know what you mean about injuries- I tore the radial-wrist side-ligament on my left index finger and had to have it repaired a year ago and I am just now able to really play but I have really bad arthritis in right hand knuckles...it's a drag getting old !! Husband is currently in a band without me- injury- and plays a bunch of festivals and stuff and we take Sally with us. It's fun. I miss playing classical/orchestra music.

Yay for strings! Cello was my first career - I had to cut the professional angle out after a wrist injury, but I still freelance. Usually classical, but I played with a bluegrass band on and off in music school. What does your husband play?

Sally (Gooden) like the song,is a 1 1/2 year old sable sheltie that we rescused when she was 4 mos. old. A client came in looking for a home for her,and my husband had always wanted a female sheltie-so she has been our sweetie ever since. She is really a good girl with that typical sheltie mind that needs to be on top of everything,to inlude the cat and every sound and movement of the entire neighborhood...her favorite things to do are fetch and tug and watching the world from out our front door. Sally is on the tall end of the sheltie range with very full coats. She has a blackish face with a white snip on her muzzle and light brown racoon rimmed eyes.
